Restore SNAP & Invest in Local Farms

FEED Kearsarge is a local coalition working to increase farm, food and nutrition security for the Kearsarge Region:.

Our food system is at a critical turning point. Right now, Congress is shaping the next Farm Bill, a massive piece of federal legislation that dictates everything from what ends up on our dinner tables to how land is farmed, how rural communities develop, and whether our neighbors facing hard times can afford groceries. Watch a deep-dive video into the Farm Bill history, priorities, and process for passing.

Last year’s reconciliation bill HR1 fast-tracked, among other things, cuts to critical nutrition programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) while directing the majority of funding to massive agribusinesses that control the food market. The Farm Bill is the opportunity to change course and reverse these funding choices. Unfortunately, the present proposals fall short of protecting our community, as it fails to reverse SNAP cuts or provide meaningful support for local agriculture.

This bill could do so much more to fund a systemic shift toward local, diversified organic food systems and nutrition security for all. But to make that happen, our representatives need to hear from us today.

Members of the FEED Kearsarge Coalition are advocating for an equitable, forward-looking Farm Bill that supports farm, food and nutrition security in our community. Specifically:

  • Protect nutrition safety nets: delaying if not completely reversing cuts to SNAP

  • Support local, organic agriculture: Land access for new farmers, robust climate resilience programs, and funding for small, diversified, and organic farms

Now is the time to make your voice heard! These organizations help you send clear, prewritten messages to your representatives:

Together we can support a systemic shift toward local, diversified organic food systems and nutrition security for all.
